Our Association is proud to carry on the maritime tradition of giving back to our local community. We support several worthy causes every year, and are pleased to direct our support to the following organizations in 2013.
- Charleston Port & Seafarers’ Society, a Christian charity organization which exists for the purpose of welcoming and serving the needs of those men and women who make their livelihood in the port or at sea, without regard for nationality, race, ethnicity, politics, or religion. - Trident United Way works to make real, long-lasting change in the Lowcountry by addressing the issues that matter the most in people’s lives: education, financial stability and health. http://www.tuw.org/
- Charleston Community Sailing Inc. is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to improve the community and the sport of sailing by providing access, facilities, and sailing instruction to people of all socioeconomic backgrounds, skill levels, and physical abilities. http://www.charlestoncommunitysailing.org/
- College of Charleston Foundation serves to promote programs of education, research, student development, and faculty development for the exclusive benefit of the College of Charleston. http://giving.cofc.edu/foundation/
- Dragonboat Charleston was founded in 2003 with the mission to promote physical and mental wellness among cancer survivors and their community through dragon boating. http://www.dragonboatcharleston.org/dnn/
- The Run for Adela, which allows The Adela Holmes Cook Foundation to donate over $30,000 to Camp Happy Days and other needs in the Lowcountry since its inception in 2010. Honors Adela’s memory by bringing family, friends and the community together to give back to worthy causes. https://runforadela.eventbrite.com/
- The Charleston James Island Connector Run, which benefits the Gavalas Kolanko Foundation (GKF), a local charity that awards annual scholarships to students with physical disabilities. Since 1999, the Foundation has awarded 61 scholarships to Lowcountry students attending College of Charleston and Charleston Southern University. http://jicrun.com
- Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy works closely with law enforcement and emergency agencies in Charleston to provide assistance during emergency situations. The Chaplaincy provides pastoral care and counseling for first responders, victims of crimes and their families; assists the coroner in notifying individuals who have lost a family member; and aids in hostage negotiations and other emergency situations. http://coastalcrisischaplain.org/
